What the Venue Actually Is
Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs is set at 1382 County Road 28 in Fraserville, Ontario, out in the kind of rural area where GPS really earns its keep. It sits roughly an hour northeast of Peterborough. If a navigation app has trouble locking in the street address, the postal code K0L 1V0 usually sorts it out.
The slots floor is straightforward and predictable: doors open every day at 10:00 am and close at midnight. Same schedule on weekdays, weekends, and through the off-season, so there is no guessing which days are different.
Our gaming offer here is narrower than what a lot of people imagine when they hear the word “casino”. This is a slots-only floor. There are no blackjack or roulette tables, and there is no poker room hidden around a corner. What we do have is a dedicated area inside the gaming section called The Players Lounge. It gives players a place to sit properly, take a breather, or settle in if they plan to stay on the machines for a longer stretch. That, together with the main slot area, is the entire gaming footprint.
Within the Shorelines family, Kawartha Downs is intentionally different. It is the only property that carries the “Slots” tag instead of “Casino” in its name. That label signals the focus of the venue rather than being a missing word or a branding oversight.

Planning a Visit
Because the property sits outside a city centre, a little advance planning makes the experience smoother. One thing matters more than anything before the drive: check that operations are running as expected. As of late 2025, OLG reversed a previous move to shut the venue, and the slots floor is active again. Even so, calling 705-939-2400 ahead of time is the smart play, especially for guests coming in from farther out.
Guests should bring government-issued photo ID. Ontario sets the legal gambling age at 19, and ID checks are standard protocol at every property that falls under OLG regulation. Security treats that rule as non-negotiable, there are no workarounds.
From May through October, Saturdays feel different on site. On those days, there is a solid chance live harness racing is underway at the same time as slots play. The racetrack and slots floor sit inside the same larger complex, but operate as distinct areas. Visitors can move between them during one trip without much effort. When there is no live card at Kawartha Downs itself, the racetrack section offers simulcast wagering on races from other tracks, so the horse betting side keeps going all year.
There is a small practical point that tends to help any long-drive visit, not just at this venue. It usually works better to eat before arriving instead of banking on on-site food to line up perfectly with what someone wants. Rural venues sometimes run on leaner dining options, and it is easier to focus on the experience when hunger is not part of the equation.
For group visits, work events, or larger functions, reaching out directly to the venue is the right step. The broader Kawartha Downs complex handles entertainment beyond gaming alone, and staff on-site can walk visitors through what is running or bookable on specific dates.
The Shorelines Name and Where It Came From
The property did not always look and sound like it does now. Up until 2016, the name on the building was OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs. It was clear and functional, but not exactly a brand that stood out. Things changed at the end of 2015, when Great Canadian Gaming Corporation rolled out a new identity across several Ontario properties at once. The “Shorelines Casinos” brand arrived as part of that rollout, covering multiple venues in one push.
Kawartha Downs joined this rebrand early in 2016 and took on the new name Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs. From that moment on, it sat alongside three sister properties: Shorelines Casino Belleville, Shorelines Casino Peterborough, and Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands. Those three carry the word “Casino” because they run broader gaming offers. Kawartha Downs, as the only “Slots” venue, remained more focused by design.
Great Canadian Entertainment - the updated operating brand of Great Canadian Gaming Corporation - manages all four Shorelines sites under contracts with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. OLG, as the provincial Crown agency, owns the gaming business itself and sets the rules the properties work within. Day-to-day operations at Kawartha Downs run under that framework.
The Ontario Gaming East Limited Partnership is the formal structure through which the transfer from direct OLG operation to private management was completed. It sits in the background, but it matters for understanding how the property is organized behind the scenes.
