The Gaming Floor
Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs is located at 1382 County Road 28 in Fraserville, Ontario, about 17 kilometres south of Peterborough. The gaming room is built right into the Kawartha Downs racetrack complex, so it runs as one of those racetrack-casino style sites that Ontario has leaned on for years. On the floor, there are around 150 electronic slot machines in operation. No table games here: no blackjack, no roulette, just slots, exactly as the name promises.
We keep the casino open every day from 10:00 am through to midnight, all year. Dress is casual and relaxed, which fits the local crowd that usually comes in. Guests under 19 are not allowed into the gaming area - that is provincial law under the AGCO framework, and our team checks valid ID at the entrance.

All machines run under OLG provincial standards and oversight. Play is in Canadian dollars only. Cash is still the main way players fund their time here: we have ATMs in the building, and payouts are made either through the cage or via vouchers printed at the machines. For a land-based casino in Ontario, that setup is very typical.
Planning a Visit
For a first trip, it is worth picking up the phone and calling 705-939-2400 before you drive out. Hours can be adjusted with seasonal changes or shifts in policy, and a quick call can keep you from showing up on a reduced schedule day. You will need government-issued photo identification that proves you are 19 or older. Without that, entry to the gaming floor simply does not happen.
Parking is right on-site with the racetrack. Once you pull into the property and head inside, the Shorelines Slots area is easy to find, and our entrance staff will walk you through ID verification. After that, you can go to the cage to get set up, or use an ATM if you prefer, choose a machine and sit down to play.
When it is time to cash out, you collect the voucher printed by the slot machine, then redeem that slip at the cage for Canadian dollars. At Shorelines-branded properties, the minimum cage transaction is typically around $20. The Player’s Lounge and Bar is part of the larger complex, so food and drinks are available on the property without any need to reserve a table ahead of time. It is handy to know how that is laid out before you start your drive.
There is one small but useful thing to keep in mind when planning: if you are visiting a casino that shares space with a racetrack, always check if there is a live race card running that day. The feel of the place changes quickly on race nights, and the lots can fill up faster than you might expect.
Kawartha Downs Racetrack and the Racing Season
Live harness racing at Kawartha Downs is scheduled from May through October, running on Saturdays only, with first post generally at 7:00 pm. During those months, guests can spend time on the slots floor and then step out to watch actual races on the same property. The racetrack and the casino sit at the same address and share the parking lot, so it works as one blended visit with two separate activities.
For questions tied to events, the racetrack side of the property uses [email protected] as the main contact address. Food and beverage inquiries are routed to [email protected]. Both addresses belong to Kawartha Downs operations as a whole, not to a separate casino-only office.

The presence of slot machines at the racetrack comes directly from OLG’s Optional Slots at Racetracks Program. That program is designed so that part of the gaming revenue flows back into the racing sector and supports employment in the region. The racetrack and the slots floor might operate on different schedules, but financially they are tightly connected.
How the Brand Got Here
The Shorelines name arrived at Kawartha Downs in early 2016. Before that period, the property was branded as OLG Slots at Kawartha Downs, matching the more direct OLG naming used at racetrack slot venues across Ontario at the time. In December 2015, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation announced a rebrand as part of a broader shift in how gaming in Eastern Ontario would be operated.
This change rolled out in parallel at Thousand Islands Casino, which shifted to Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, and a separate Belleville property sat in the same strategy. The Shorelines brand was placed under Ontario Gaming East Limited Partnership, the structure Great Canadian used to assume casino service provider duties from OLG throughout Eastern Ontario.
Ownership of the Kawartha Downs property is split evenly: Romspen Investments Corp holds 50% and Great Canadian Entertainment holds the other 50%. Under the Shorelines name, Great Canadian manages day-to-day operations, branding, and customer-facing services. OLG continues in its role as the provincial crown agency providing oversight. AGCO handles licensing and regulation of all gaming activity on the floor.
Since the rebrand, the venue has gone through a few operational stops and starts. There was a temporary closure, then a confirmed reopening in December 2018. The COVID period followed that, and the casino shut alongside the rest of Ontario’s gaming properties. We reopened on September 28, 2020 at the same time as Shorelines Casino Peterborough, operating within Ontario’s Stage 3 rules, with capacity caps and health-related protocols in place.
